Pezeshkian to UN Secretary-General: America betrayed diplomacy three times during my term

Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, emphasized Tehran's commitment to diplomacy in his meeting with the UN Secretary-General, but stated that repeated US actions have severely damaged Iran's trust in Washington.

Mr. Pezeshkian told Antonio Guterres yesterday in New York: "Iran has not left the negotiating table, but given past experience, it no longer has trust in America."

During this meeting, Mr. Pezeshkian said that the US "betrayed diplomacy" three times during his presidency and re-emphasized that the goal of Iran's nuclear program is to achieve "peaceful nuclear knowledge and technology" and not to build nuclear weapons. The Iranian president also demanded ensuring the security of the region without the military presence of foreign countries, stating that Tehran wants to "foster" the security of the Persian Gulf and the Middle East with the cooperation of neighboring countries and without the presence of "extra-regional forces".

According to the report on the Iranian presidency's website, Antonio Guterres, while welcoming Tehran's recent diplomatic efforts, called for the continuation of talks.
