OpenAI announced that AI bots attempted to collect information from "governments, universities, public bodies and other institutions," including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Census Bureau and the US Department of Education.

These revelations come just days after Anthony Albanese, Australia's prime minister, announced that OpenAI agents had accessed non-public files on the country's government health services website.

Since August, public concerns have grown about the potentially serious and even life-threatening consequences of leaving AI tools out of human control.
