Saudi-led coalition: Two Houthi drones were intercepted towards Riyadh

The Saudi-led coalition announced Saturday morning that two drones launched by the Iran-backed Houthis toward Riyadh, the Saudi capital, had been intercepted.

The coalition wrote on the X social network that it is monitoring missile and drone threats launched towards Saudi Arabia, but did not provide further details.

The Saudi Civil Defense issued warnings to Hamis Mosheeth and Abha overnight, but no warning was issued to Riyadh.

The Houthis, who control heavily populated parts and most of northern Yemen, have carried out strikes against Saudi Arabia since the naval blockade was announced in July, including targeting Saudi ships in the Red Sea. These attacks were also aimed at Saudi cities and energy and shipping infrastructures, and in a situation where passage through the Strait of Hormuz is still largely disrupted, the Red Sea route as a main alternative route for exporting the countries of the Persian Gulf was also in danger.
