Right-wing politicians in Latin America enjoyed a wave of electoral success that changed the map of power in the region.

Latin America now has 12 heads of state located right of center on the political spectrum.

This situation is different from the conditions at the beginning of 2023. When 11 Latin American countries were ruled by different types of leftist currents.

It is true that Brazil and Mexico, the two largest democracies in the region according to the number of voters, still have leftist governments. But Brazil will see elections in October that are expected to be a direct contest between incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and right-wing senator Flavio Bolsonaro.
