Mr. Pazhkian wrote on Friday on the X social network: "Iran also agrees with this approach and emphasizes the importance of returning to this understanding."

These statements come a few days after his speech at the UN General Assembly, in which he said that Iran "will not kneel" before the US. He also said in an interview with Fox News a day later that Iran does not want the war to continue, but Washington is responsible for ending it.

Abbas Irakichi, Iran's foreign minister, also met with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on the sidelines of the general assembly, but these talks have so far not led to a concrete opening.
