What is Iran's seven-day plan and how is it different from the Islamabad Memorandum?

On Thursday, September 24, 2026, in a meeting with a group of journalists in New York, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Iraqi explained to Washington the details of Tehran's "new proposal".

According to him, if Washington accepts the conditions established in this plan and implements them, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened at the end of a period of seven days. Mr. Irakichi said those terms do not go beyond the commitments seen in the June 14 Iran-US memorandum of understanding.

This proposal, expressed in the media as the "7-day plan", is not Iran's proposal to reach a final agreement within a week, but intensive rounds of implementing countermeasures in order to renew negotiations with America. According to this proposal, if the US removes some of the military and economic pressure against Iran, the Islamic Republic will also remove the restrictions on movement in the Strait of Hormuz at the end of this period.
