The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement today stating that Colombia's decision to sever ties with more than half a century old is "contrary to the principle of mutual respect".

The statement said that the decision was made "in haste" and "only under the influence of prisoners of Israel and the United States.

The statement also accused the Colombian government of being "heavily subject to the infiltration of drug production and distribution cartels" and being part of "the dreaded network of drug eradications in the Americas", and therefore "not in a position to teach others about assassinations and drugs".

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said in this statement that "in accordance with the protection of national interests, it will take the necessary measures against this unjustified and hostile attitude of the Colombian government."

Consular relations between the two countries are ongoing, and Colombia severed diplomatic relations just yesterday.
