David Perdue, the US ambassador to China, told CNBC that Donald Trump made it clear to Xi Jinping in his meeting with the Chinese president at the White House that China's aid to Iran is not acceptable to the US.

David Perdue, the US ambassador to China, told CNBC that Donald Trump made it clear to Xi Jinping in his meeting with the Chinese president at the White House that China's aid to Iran is not acceptable to the US.

Mr. Trump hosted a lavish official dinner at the White House last night.

He described Mr Xi and his wife as wonderful and honorable people and said the two countries have "different systems", but relations between the two countries are now better than ever.

Xi Jinping also said that China's peaceful rise does not mean America's decline.

However, observers doubt that this meeting will have an impactful outcome on sensitive issues such as artificial intelligence, Russia and Iran.
