Zelensky: Trump promised that he would allow the construction of Patriot defense systems in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says that US President Donald Trump assured him during their meeting in New York that he would finally give permission to build Patriot air defense systems in Ukraine.

This promise was first made in July (two months ago), but a few weeks later, Mr. Trump changed his position, saying that America "should be very careful about allowing others to build these systems."

Mr. Zelensky said that the "final decision" had now been made; But Washington has not yet confirmed it.

Patriot systems are very important for protecting Ukrainian cities from ongoing Russian ballistic missile attacks.

The president of Ukraine also said that the US has proposed to hold a meeting between Ukrainian and Russian negotiators in the United Arab Emirates to discuss possible ways to end the war.
