Lavrov and Irakichi meet in New York; Moscow and Tehran's emphasis on a diplomatic solution to tensions in the Middle East

Sergey Lavrov and Abbas Irakchi, the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran, met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Moscow announced that both sides believe that only a diplomatic solution can end the tensions in the Middle East, which were created as a result of America's war and Israel's captivity in Iran.

After this meeting, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement: "Current regional and international issues were discussed, emphasizing the situation around Iran."

"Both sides emphasized that there is no alternative to a diplomatic solution to the crisis caused by the illegal actions of the United States and the Israeli captives," the statement said.

Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, and Masoud Pezhkian, President of Iran, signed a strategic partnership and cooperation agreement between the two countries in 2025.
