Hampshire County Sheriff's Office said the 37-year-old man, known to his fans as "Danny Tomo", was also charged with refusing to provide his mobile phone password.

Police added that he will remain in custody and is due to appear in court via video link on Friday.

Police previously announced that they were investigating a video that was broadcast live on the Internet. When Mr. Thomas apparently carried out a ground attack on an inflatable boat with a knife, a French Coast Guard officer was also present.
