The information was provided Tuesday in a letter to New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, in response to questions from the Democratic congresswoman about the health and well-being of Navy sailors.

The families of the sailors have previously expressed great concern about the deterioration of their mental health and the harsh conditions prevailing in this long mission in the Middle East, which is part of the US military operations against Iran.

The aircraft carrier, which has been stationed in the area since last November, is now returning to the United States. The BBC has contacted the US Navy for comment.
