International Maritime Organization: Global shipping has never been so affected by conflict

The head of the International Maritime Organization says he has never seen world shipping affected by war and conflict like the current situation.

Arsenio Dominguez told the BBC that the maritime industry is facing severe pressures; So the crews of the ships are losing their lives in the Strait of Hormuz and only since June about a hundred ships have been targeted during the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Mr Dominguez said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly that political will was needed to prevent the shipping industry from becoming a side victim of conflict.

He emphasized that this organization will continue to defend the principle of freeing shipping against attempts to impose tariffs and tariffs.
