A federal judge in the United States temporarily halted Donald Trump's action to ban three news channels from entering the White House and ordered his administration to restore access to these outlets.

The news channels CNN, Amazon Now and Politico considered this ban a "clear violation" of the press's legal right to freedom and a form of discrimination.

Mr Trump initially said he had cut off those media outlets' access to the White House for publishing "fake news". But the White House later accused them of endangering "national security" without providing evidence.

This temporary order, which prevents the access of these means of communication to the White House, will remain in place for 14 days so that the court will have time to examine the case more carefully.

Timothy Kelly, a Trump-appointed judge on that court, said he thinks the legal process for cutting off these media outlets' access to the White House was not followed properly.
