Macron: Negotiations with Trump were very productive

French President Emmanuel Macron said he conducted a "very productive" negotiation with Donald Trump about the war in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Mr. Macron, who traveled to New York to attend the annual World Leaders' meeting at the UN, spoke with his American counterpart.

Mr. Macron said that the desire to reopen the Strait of Hormuz was also discussed at this meeting.

According to him, "several solutions were discussed... that could provide ways and tools for the passage of more cargo and oil tankers without reaching a comprehensive agreement."

He added: "Another topic we discussed was the situation in the Red Sea... this issue is important for global prices."

With the blockage of the Hormuz Strait, the Red Sea has become one of the key routes for oil transport, but control over the critical Bab-el-Mandeb Strait in this area by the Iran-aligned Houthi rebels in Yemen presents an even greater challenge to shipping operations.
