🔻 Reuters: Xi may ask Trump not to sell weapons to Taiwan and put pressure on Iran

Reuters news agency reported from its sources that Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to ask US President Donald Trump to stop arms sales to Taiwan based on the 1982 Joint Declaration during his visit to America, which begins tomorrow.

Reuters says China, however, has made an offer to help pressure Iran over the Middle East war.

China has regularly described Taiwan as one of its most sensitive and important diplomatic issues and has repeatedly called for an end to arms sales to the island.

The United States is bound by its domestic laws to provide the island with the means necessary to defend Taiwan, which is governed by a democratic government.

In the past five years, China has greatly increased its military activity around Taiwan.
