Imran Khan's party - Tehreek-e-Insaf - announced that Aleema Khanum was arrested on Sunday afternoon, September 20/29, in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore. Officials in this party described this action as "illegal arrest". His son also demanded the release and return of his mother.

According to the order issued by Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Aleema Khanum was arrested on charges of recruiting Imran Khan's supporters "through social media and public meetings" and is to remain in custody for 30 days.

Alimah Khanum is one of the outspoken critics of her brother's arrest and regularly talks to his fans and the media.

Shahraz Khan, his son, wrote on the X social network: "We ask the government to immediately inform about his whereabouts and ensure his safety and safe return." The arrest of Alima Hanoum was linked by many to the national interceptions planned for September 27; Demonstrators are supposed to march towards Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
