This is the first ground attack on Riyadh since the resumption of war with the Houthis. Saudi Arabia says that the missile fired at Riyadh was "intercepted and destroyed."

Various news agencies reported that some residents of Riyadh heard an explosion and then saw several columns of smoke near the airport.

The French news agency also reported that in Riyadh, on Saturday, two loud explosions were heard, and its reporters saw a fuel tank belonging to the oil company Aramco near the airport that caught fire.

On September 11 (September 20), the Saudi Ministry of Energy temporarily suspended the operation of the East-West crude oil pipeline. A day earlier, that line was the target of ground attack drones that Saudi Arabia said were flown from Iraq. The Houthis control much of Yemen and recently captured the coastal towns near the strait of Belmandab and Ayew. The US warned on Saturday that the war could "rapidly escalate".
