Axios: American diplomats met with representatives of the Houthis in Oman

The American publication Axios, citing a regional source familiar with the matter, confirmed that American diplomats met with Houthi representatives at the American embassy in Oman late last week and discussed tensions in the Red Sea.

As reported by Axios, this meeting was held in Muscat with the assistance of the Omani government and was focused on preserving the ceasefire between the US and the Houthis and ensuring the survival of the Bebelmandab Strait.

The Houthis' control of the Bab al-Mandab strait has entered a new phase of the war equation in the Middle East. The US is trying to prevent the traffic problem in Bab al-Mandab from adding to the crisis in the energy market, and at the same time it is avoiding entering into a joint military operation with Saudi Arabia.
