On the eve of Xi's possible trip to America, Iraqi will travel to Beijing

China's Foreign Ministry announced today that Abbas Iraqchi will meet with his counterpart, Wang Yi, in Beijing tomorrow.

According to this ministry, the two foreign ministers met with each other last week on the sidelines of the BRICS conference in Delhi.

China is the largest buyer of Iranian oil and is considered an important diplomatic supporter of Tehran.

This trip comes a week before Xi Jinping's possible trip to Washington to meet with Donald Trump.

Mr Trump has sent a formal invitation to the Chinese president, but Beijing has not announced any plans for his visit to America.

The US president warned China to refrain from selling weapons to Iran, and in May sanctions were imposed on three satellite companies in China for "facilitating Iran's military operation".

China called these accusations "baseless".
