A Finnish court has given 3.5 years in prison to the Russian captain of the vessel Pitburg, who was arrested by the Finnish authorities in December 2025, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the verdict. The Russian Andrey Maksimenko and the Seite, a citizen of Azerbaijan, were found guilty of damaging cables in the Gulf of Finland. The sailor received two years and 10 months. The freighter Pitburg, flying the flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, was detained by the Finnish police. The team included eight Russian citizens. The ship left the country in January, but three Russians - the captain and two mates - were banned from leaving.
