French President Emmanuel Macron linked the mass demonstrations in the country with the war in Iran, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the rise in fuel prices. According to him, it was these events that led to a decrease in the purchasing power of the French, not tax increases or pension reform. Referring to the riots, Macron called the current situation a "collective failure."
