The number of open vacancies in the US government has reached its highest level since the 1980s due to high employee turnover and a slow selection process, the Washington Post reports. In 2026, the US administration nominated 186 candidates for US Senate confirmation. However, 249 positions still remain vacant because the White House has not nominated candidates for these positions.
