Scientists from the University of Sheffield have recreated ancient Roman glass that changes its color from green to red depending on the light, the Guardian writes. To recreate the technology, the researchers added gold and silver particles to the molten glass. When they cooled, nano-crystals formed around them, which interact with light in a different way. According to researcher Lisa Hollands, the nanoparticles block certain colors of the light spectrum, causing the glass to change color depending on the direction of the light.
