Tap water in Russia has become a cocktail of infections, with Russians complaining of hair loss, skin deterioration and allergic reactions. Abnormalities in water sanitary standards were discovered in dozens of regions of the country. "Basis" studied epidemiological reports throughout the country - the results are disappointing. In 2025 in Russia, the share of tap water that did not pass the test for chemical composition increased to 12.24% compared to 11.64% a year earlier, according to the report of Rospotrabendzor. The worst situation is in the Republic of Kalmykia: extreme levels of infections have been detected there. For example, in Gorodovikovsky district - up to 100% of the water samples with anomalies are from the distribution network. Among the substances for which excesses were registered in the republic, iron, silicon, nitrates and nitrites can be mentioned, as well as toxic elements that may be dangerous to human health, according to the regional office for natural resources. The situation is no better in the Kaliningrad region: the proportion of tap water samples in which harmful bacteria were found doubled during the year. Almost a third of the samples had deviations in the iron content, and a quarter failed the smell, taste and color test. Rospotrabendzor links the deterioration of water quality among consumers to worn municipal and domestic pipes, accidents and insufficient maintenance of networks. An excess of contamination and deviations were also recorded in the waters of the Moscow, Ryazan, Tambov, Pskov, Kostroma, Belgorod and Voronezh regions - according to reports from the regional departments for the years 2025-2026. The most common problem is an excess of iron, manganese, fluorine and chlorine, as well as high water hardness. For example, in the Moscow region, 17% of the water samples from the distribution network did not meet sanitary and chemical standards. Russians complain more and more about the appearance of dermatitis, scabies and allergies to water. Many residents of areas with water problems report hair loss, itchy spots on the body after showering and dry skin.
