Russia and Ukraine conducted a humanitarian mission in Alsheki. Citizens were taken out of the city in 25 buses, and tens of tons of humanitarian aid were delivered to those who decided to stay. Since February 2022, Alsheki has been under the control of Russian forces, and almost all of this time the settlement lived near the combat zone. After the withdrawal of Ukraine's armed forces to the right bank of the Dnieper in the fall, the city was regularly subjected to shelling and drone attacks. The city experienced interruptions in electricity, gas and water. By the beginning of 2026, the situation with the food and medicine began to deteriorate here. The current mission could be agreed upon through the mediation of the United States and First Lady Melania Trump. Moscow and Kiev agreed to temporarily cease fire in the Ilyushk region in order to provide humanitarian aid and evacuate residents. During the humanitarian mission, the locals could choose independently where to evacuate - to Russia or Ukraine. Not only people, but also domestic animals were taken out of the city. During the operation, a cease-fire was in effect in Alsheki that was not violated. Russian Ombudsman Yana Lantertova and Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubintz thanked each other for their cooperation and highly appreciated the organization of the mission. During the trip, the parties also discussed the possibility of carrying out similar humanitarian operations in other localities. Lantertova and Lobinz supported this idea.
