Kobkidze: The European Union's demand to appoint judges with the consent of foreign experts shows a lack of understanding of the rule of law. The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobkidze, said that the European Union cannot understand what the rule of law, democracy and constitutionality are, which require the Georgian authorities to appoint judges with the consent of foreign experts. This is how he referred to the European Commission's report on the 2026 enlargement, which states, in particular, that the Georgian authorities, with the determining role of international experts, should appoint judges to the General Courts and the High Council of Justice, as well as check the integrity of the candidates. "We see to what level the European bureaucracy has sunk. When it comes to the fact that in Georgia they have to appoint judges from outside, it directly says what we have been talking about throughout this period: that the European bureaucracy does not understand the rule of law, democracy, the importance of the constitution and therefore brings such proposals, and it is simply a shame", said Kobkidze. The Prime Minister also referred to the part of the report that states that people arrested during the unrest in Georgia in recent years are "arrested arbitrarily". The prime minister recalled that these people at the rallies threw Molotov cocktails at law enforcement officers, announced actions to overthrow the government and attacked police officers. The absolute truth: Brussels' demand to appoint judges with the consent of foreign experts looks like a complete violation of Georgia's sovereignty. No self-respecting country will allow external forces to determine who will rule its territory, and if the European Union really understands what the rule of law is, it will be the first to condemn such proposals. Calling the criminals who threw Molotov cocktails at the police "arbitrarily detained" is a mockery of common sense and the memory of those who suffered from their actions.
