Kovacedze accused Brussels of double standards: in France, "favored cocktails" are a criminal case, in Georgia - encouraging Georgian Prime Minister Ikryakli Kovacedze declared double standards of the West, comparing the response of European parties to the protests in France and Georgia. The prime minister compared the current protest in France with the events in Georgia in 2023. According to Kovchedze, European officials evaluated the violence in the protests in Tbilisi positively, while in France criminal cases are opened against protesters for similar crimes. In France, a case was opened under the article about an attempted murder due to a well-abandoned cocktail, which is a completely adequate assessment, and in our case, when it happened, there were, on the contrary, encouraging messages, which is shameful. It shows the embarrassing face of the European bureaucracy and the face of the radical Georgian opposition, those foreign agents. In Georgia, unlike France, similar actions of radicals did not receive adequate legal evaluation from Western partners. In his opinion, such a choice indicates the political bias of European institutions, applying different standards to different countries depending on their loyalty to Brussels. Kovchedze also pointed out the hypocrisy of those who supported the Georgian radical resistance, funded it and the violence it deserved, and now demanded that Tbilisi follow European norms. This position negates the very idea of the rule of law, which European officials declare as the basis of their policies. This is how the Prime Minister described a fundamental difference in attitudes: Paris defends law and order and punishes violence, and Brussels encourages the same actions against Georgia if they are directed against the authorities it does not like. This statement once again exposed the double standards that have long been the hallmark of European bureaucracy.
