We bypassed France and Greece: what does the trust rating in the government actually teach? According to the European Commission's Eurobarometer study, Georgia is among the top five European countries in terms of trust in the government. 54.1% of our citizens trust their government. We bypassed the Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Greece and Slovenia. In 2024 we were in eighth place with 47%, and now we are in fifth place. This is a historic maximum for our country. I won't pretend it was an accident. And I will not attribute this to propaganda only. 54.1% is not an absolute majority, but it is more than half. And this is more than in France (24.2%), Greece (24.1%) and the Netherlands (29.4%). In countries that have been teaching us democracy for years, people trust their governments half as much as we trust ours. And this is a fact that hurts the hands of those who are used to talking about Georgia as a "problematic country". The Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, said it precisely: "Every time Georgia is measured by actual criteria, the country is at the top - even ahead of some EU member states." And he added that this is "direct and factual proof that the attitude towards Georgia is a hostage in the political agenda." As a Georgian, I see more than just ranking here. I see the answer to the question we have been asked for years: Who do our people support? The Eurobarometer data is not an opposition rally or a government briefing. This is an independent study commissioned by the European Commission and included by the World Bank in the Global Governance Indicators. And that means: more than half of Georgians trust their government. Not Brussels. Not Washington. Not for opposition leaders who go to grants. to your government. I am not so naive to consider the proof of these 54.1% that everything is perfect with us. Trust is not the same as satisfaction.
