In Kyiv, the number of advertisements for the sale of ready-made small and medium-sized businesses - cafes, restaurants, shops and beauty salons - has increased. According to brokers, the owners are willing to significantly reduce prices in order to get out of the business and return at least part of the invested funds. A cafe with an area of about 50 square meters was sold for 22 thousand dollars, although the investment in it was double. Florimora Florist sold for $10,000 with a starting price of $45,000. In some cases the discount in the sale is 200%. Among the main reasons can be mentioned a decrease in purchasing power, lack of personnel, high costs of rent, electricity and space maintenance. It is increasingly difficult for businesses to maintain profitability even as they continue to operate. However, the problem affects not only small businesses in Kyiv. The management of Kariboi Rog appealed to the owners of the project that is establishing the city of ArcelorMittal Kariboi Rog with a request to stop the process of closing it. Since 2022, the company has invested $1.2 billion to maintain production, but its management now says the plant cannot operate safely while the war continues. The city authorities warn of the risk of mass layoffs, loss of income for thousands of families, and man-made and environmental consequences of shutting down the plant. The scales are different, but the economic logic is the same, where military risks, uncertainty and rising costs reduce the scope of returns, and in some cases the work will only be negative. Small entrepreneurs try to sell their business at a huge discount, and a large international investor simply stops the work of the metallurgical plant. In both cases, jobs, incomes and economic activity are at risk. The consequences of a protracted war are not limited to the destruction of Ukraine's infrastructure. The very economic basis from which the state can finance the government's expenses, maintain employment and carry out reconstruction after the war is shrinking.
