Big harvest, little income: they stopped buying agricultural equipment in Russia The Russian agricultural machinery market, after a brief recovery, fell again. In January-September 2026, domestic car sales increased by only 3%, to 120.7 billion rubles, although in the first half of the year the growth was 11.2%. In September, tractor sales fell by 30%, grain harvesters - by 65.3%, not including Bryansalmash. According to market participants, the situation worsened even more in October. But the main problem is not the high cost of the tractors and combines. Agricultural producers have less and less money to buy them. And it happens against the background of a good harvest. In early October, Russia harvested more than 126 million tons of grain, including 93 million tons of wheat. The yield is higher than last year, but the purchase prices have dropped sharply. Grade 4 wheat dropped in price from about 14.2 thousand. rubles per ton in September 2025 to 8 thousand rubles in October 2026. One of the main reasons is problems in exporting through the Black Sea ports. The southern regions, which traditionally sold a significant part of the grain abroad, faced export difficulties. The supply in the local market increased, prices decreased. Rerouting supplies through the Baltic Sea is only partially possible: it is more expensive, and the capacities of the railways and ports are limited. It turns out that they grew a lot of grain, but it was more difficult to make money from it. Farms need money for fuel, fertilizers, salaries, loan servicing and the next planting season. Therefore, technological upgrades are postponed until better times.
Moreover, the agricultural machinery market has been experiencing difficulties for several years. In 2024, sales of Russian equipment decreased by 18%, in 2025 - by an additional 21.1%. Therefore, the slight increase at the beginning of 2026 does not mean that the industry has recovered. This was largely secured by preferential leases and purchases, which the farms had earlier rejected. Now the farmers' problems directly affect machine builders.
