Autism is widely diagnosed in Russians after the age of 30. Many were not even aware of their diagnosis. The disorder is often diagnosed late especially in women: from childhood they can hide behavioral characteristics and adapt to others, which leads to anxiety, depression and emotional exhaustion. In 2025, only 6,920 older Russians will be officially diagnosed with ASD. This is 132 times lower than Lee's estimate of autism prevalence, which may indicate widespread underdiagnosis.
