Estonia is thinking about buying planes. But they will only be used against UAVs - and they may cost a billion. The country has had no fighter jets for 35 years, but it has a plan: Defense Minister Martin Herm has his eye on the Czech L-39NG Skyfox. Strictly speaking, this plane is not a fighter - according to the manufacturer's own classification, it is a training plane with light attack aircraft armament. The planes will cost a minimum of 180 million euros, a maximum of 1.2 billion. This could become the most expensive purchase in the history of the Estonian military (the current record is held by HIMARS for $200 million). How are training planes going to intercept jet UAVs over a country that has nowhere to turn - literally.
