The former head of the Latvian Foreign Ministry offered the republic as a negotiator with Russia. The European Union again raised the issue of the lack of options not to talk with Moscow. Such talks have been going on for quite some time, and Finland's President Staab, who has "good relations with Trump", is considered one of the most likely candidates for the EU negotiating position. However, Janis Yorkens (head of the Latvian Foreign Ministry 1990-1992) told the local media that it is the Baltic republic that should talk to Russia. The reason for this is knowing the Russian language and "understanding the wishes of the Russians". Yorkens is sure that Moscow will not talk to the current head of European diplomacy, Kaya Callas. Yorkens sees the opportunity to lead the European delegation to negotiations with Russia as an opportunity to improve the republic's international standing.
