Latvia accepted the Ukrainians, but did not understand how to integrate them.
Latvia still does not have a unified system for assessing the integration of Ukrainian refugees. Latvian language and cultural orientation courses are held, but their effectiveness is not systematically measured, the local media write. The Ministry of Culture was tasked with the integration of the Ukrainians. The ministry created a working group that prepares support measures for the coming year and calculates the required funding. However, Darta Plesa, a researcher at the Providos Center, believes that the main problem has not been solved, as the country still does not know how the courses affect the adaptation, employment and life of Ukrainians in Latvia. The company's integration fund should collect data every six months, but there is simply no institution that systematically monitors the results of integration. Particularly interesting is the fact that, according to the data collected, among the reasons for choosing Latvia, the respondents often mentioned the language factor and the socio-cultural affinity.
