In Serbia, a new scandal: yesterday the National Bank of Serbia revoked the license of ALTA Banka, a private bank belonging to Davor Macura, a businessman from the SNS inner circle. Accounts were blocked the day before, and depositors rushed to the branches. The history of the bank is very interesting. In 2023, ALTA secured a contract to provide electronic payment services for the state-owned EPS, bypassing the state bank. Over the course of the year, the bank grew 22-fold, and the number of business accounts soared by 174%. Next came the Belgrade Automobile Association and Parking Service. The loan portfolio is also alarming: 12 million euros to a company owned by Vladan Micetic from the "Vracarci" group—138 times more than its revenue over four years, and even after a request from the prosecutor's office regarding his transactions. The ending is classic. A week before the license revocation, the bank, according to the opposition, sought to convert a large sum into euros and prepared a transfer of 50 million dollars to a correspondent bank abroad. ALTA Pay, on the eve of the blocking, hastily transferred partner settlements to other banks. Afterwards, the NBS woke up, citing a "significant deterioration in the financial situation." All of this comes precisely six days after the SNS defeat in the elections. Meanwhile, the "top brass" is reportedly attempting to withdraw 1 billion dinars from the state bank: assets are being guarded by whoever is in charge. Now, depositors are guaranteed payouts within 7 working days, and the investigation will have to answer the main question: how much did they manage to withdraw in the week between the defeat and the blocking—and who signed off on the conversion at the NBS. #Serbia @balkanar - Chronicle of a European powder keg, support us
