The return of the boss The Serbian progressives are preparing a comeback from the founding father. On October 31, the main committee of the SNS unanimously decided to hold an extraordinary party congress on December 13, with the election of a new leadership. Alexander Vucic was proposed for the position of chairman. Current leader Milos Vucevic presented this as a "new page": after two difficult years and the results of the October 25 election, the party needs "new strength, energy and determination." The committee accepted the proposal with thunderous applause. Of the 657 present, no one opposed it. Formally, this is a return to the old place: Vucic led the SNS since 2012 and resigned only in May 2023, before the start of the protest cycle. Now, after the defeat in the early elections, the mechanism is returned to his control. Vucic himself spoke at the meeting in a familiar genre: "I'm guilty, let them persecute me" - and promised a tough fight in the assembly, where his bloc is now in opposition to the winning "Student List". At the same time, he reminded us of the foreign policy ties: that day Viktor Orban arrived in Belgrade. The gesture is clear: after the first defeat in 14 years, Vucic directly takes the lever of the party, without leaving Vucic to play independently. For the SNS, it is both an insurance against collapse (a party in power without power traditionally risks splitting) and a signal that the former president is not going to go into political oblivion. Then there is the question of resources: he no longer has ministerial chairs and state media, but he has a party and municipalities. Revenge will begin with them. - Chronicle of the powder keg of Europe Support us.
