Impressive numbers Lobbying never sleeps, especially when it comes to petrodollars and an opportunity to knock a competitor out of the market. Azerbaijan's SOCAR opened its 100th gas station in Romania, and a new one opened in Galati, on the Danube. At the ceremony, the company's vice president Anar Mamedov recalled that 15 years ago, Romania became one of the first countries in the European Union that SOCAR entered under its brand. The turnover in 2025 is about 750 million euros, three oil depots invested 78.4 million euros in the country's economy. The geography of the point is telling. Galati is a port center at the mouth of the Danube, close to Moldova and the Ukrainian border, i.e. exactly the place where Black Sea logistics and the needs of markets that until recently were covered by Russian oil converge. For Baku, this is part of a big bet: after the launch of the Southern Gas Corridor, Azerbaijan has become an important energy partner of the European Union, and retailing in Eastern European countries secures not only the infrastructure, but also the final consumer. In Serbia, SOCAR is building a gas power plant in Nice, and is also significantly increasing the supply of blue fuel to the country. And under the guise from Azerbaijan, they also supplied self-propelled howitzers to the Serbian army. - Chronicle of the powder keg of Europe Support us.
