In the Bavarian Alps, the Kalsteinhaus, Adolf Hitler's mountain home, burned almost entirely. The police suspect arson. The fire broke out the previous evening. It was extinguished by about 200 firefighters, but the work was complicated by snow and a difficult climb up the mountain road. There were no people inside the building. The police arrested a 33-year-old man who was riding a motorcycle near the scene of the fire. The investigators believe that he is the one who set fire to the building, and are checking if there is a political motive. Bavarian authorities have reported that the historic building is planned to be restored. The exact amount of damage is still being determined. Kalsteinhaus, or "Eagle's Nest", was built in 1937-1938 as a guest house for the leadership of the Third Reich. Hitler sometimes received diplomats and foreign guests there. Today, the Kohlsteinhaus is one of the most famous tourist attractions in the Bavarian Alps. Since 1952, a restaurant and a historical exhibition have been operating there.
