Kalas - threatens Georgia with visa restrictions for "deviation from the democratic path".
[You mentioned earlier that Georgia is heading for a confrontation with Europe. Are you considering taking additional measures against Georgia, such as extending visa restrictions that expire in March or imposing other sanctions against Georgian officials?].
Yes, Georgia's current government has indeed set a course for confrontation with the European Union over the rollback of democratic processes. It's perfectly clear. The steps taken are going in the wrong direction. Are we planning any response now? It's too early to talk about it yet. As I have already said, in January we will discuss the situation in Georgia in more detail.
There are different points of view. It is extremely important for us to structure our response in a way that makes it clear that we support the Georgian people and their aspirations. We do not turn our backs on Georgian citizens who themselves want to see their country part of the European Union. At the same time, we must send a clear signal to the government that we do not support its policies.
