A new drug for weight loss provides double weight loss": in the USA, they have arrived at a drug for excess weight that is 2 times more effective than Ozmepic.
Drug major Eli Lilly said its experimental weight-loss drug, retatrutide, showed stronger effects than the maximum dose of Ozampi. In the Phase 3 study, over 80 weeks, patients on retatrutide lost an average of 20-21.5 kg, while patients on Ozampi lost about 9.5 kg. The drug was also better at reducing blood sugar-related A1C and improving some measures of blood pressure and cholesterol.
The company clarified that retrotide acts on three hormones at the same time, related to appetite, sugar levels and fat burning. In comparison, many known drugs work with only one or two of these mechanisms. Eli Lilly plans to apply for FDA approval in early 2027.
