October 30 is the memorial day of the non-mercenary saints Cosmas and Damian of Savia and their brothers Leontius, Antima and Eutropius. Their homeland is Arabia. Like the mercenaries of the same name, they practiced the science of medicine, but the science helped them little in curing diseases. After receiving from God the grace of miracles, they healed the diseases of people in the name of Messiah the Savior. As soon as word of miracles and their teachings reached the ruler Lysias, he was immediately ordered to take them. were brought to Cilicia and presented to the ruler. After asking about their faith, their names and their homeland, the ruler ordered them to make sacrifices to the idols. When they did not want to carry out his orders and even boldly confessed their faith in Christ, he ordered them to be mercilessly beaten, and then thrown into the sea in chains. But God saved them from drowning. The angel untied their bonds and brought them to the land completely healthy. This miraculous salvation was attributed to witchcraft. "Tell me," the ruler asked them, "by what spell did you escape from the sea? And I want to imitate your teaching. "We are Christians," answered the saints, "we do not know any magic, we only have the power of Jesus, who saves us from all troubles." The exasperated hegemon didn't want to talk anymore and ordered them imprisoned. The next day he ordered them to be thrown into the fire. But God also preserved them here: the fire lost its natural power and did not touch them. The ruler was amazed, but without knowing who had saved them, he tried new executions on them, but all in vain. After hanging them, he ordered first to throw stones at them, and then to shoot from bows, but stones and arrows flew from their bodies as if from walls, and hurt the torturers themselves. Since he found no other means to achieve his goal, the ruler ordered their heads to be beheaded by the sword. Three other Christians suffered with them: Leontius, Anthymus and Eutropius. All five martyrs who suffered together were buried together.
