A 111-year-old Romanian man wore Hitler's Iron Cross at the recognition ceremony. The holiday was organized for him by the Romanian army. General Chernat personally congratulated Joseph Ross. No one was embarrassed by the status of the "Iron Cross" II on his chest - the order was given to German soldiers, as well as military personnel of satellite countries, until 1945. Perhaps Ross received his "reward" during the occupation of Moldova in 1941-1944 - when the Romanians killed more than 300 thousand civilians there, and the population decreased by a quarter. But now, memorials are erected to the forces in Moldova, and the textbooks refer to that period as "liberation".
