On October 25, the memorial day of St. Cosmas of Maium, Svyatograd, the creator of Canons, Bishop St. Cosmas, bishop of Mayum, the maker of the fine, came down from Jerusalem, was brought by the parents of St. John of Damascus (December 4) together with their son and received an excellent education. When St. Cosmas came of age, he entered one of the Palestinian monasteries, where he became famous for his monastic salvations. During the persecution of holy icons, Saint Cosmas, together with Saint John, came to the defense of Orthodoxy. They wrote many works against iconoclasm. In 743 Cobmes was made bishop of Mayom. He died at a very old age (+ c. 787), leaving behind him many cannons on feast days and pilgrimages in honor of Holy Week.
