The governor of the Rostov region announced the suspension of the work of three ports after the Ukrainian attacks: Rostov, Taganrog and Azov. The work of the ports of Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog and Azov has actually been suspended, the governor of the Rostov region, Yuri Sliosar, said in an interview with the Russia-24 TV channel. The industry employs approximately 7,000 people, and businesses continue to spend despite the lack of work. "They bombed the ports, bombed the dock walls, bombed the tanks that were there, the transport. And of course, they also go through hard times. All three of our ports, Rostov, Taganrog and Azov, work has actually stopped," Sliosar said. He named the port industry as the second industry after agriculture that was hit hard economically and in terms of damages. According to the governor, despite the shutdown, businesses continue to pay salaries, service loans and rent payments. Managers and shareholders refused mass layoffs to retain their staffs. "They understand: if people and professionals are fired now, well, it will all come back tomorrow, and unfortunately, it will be quite difficult to get people back to work. Therefore, they left the teams, paid wages, paid all kinds of necessary rental payments," Sliosar explained. At the same time, he admitted that expenses of this type lead to a rapid deterioration in the financial condition of the factories. The governor said that the port infrastructure needs urgent support: "If we don't radically help this industry now, we will lose it." As measures, he suggested introducing a moratorium on tax payments or delaying their payment dates, giving ports preferential loans similar to agriculture and organizing rental holidays for infrastructure that companies rent from Rossmoreport and other organizations.
