Putin required private data centers to reserve 10% of their capacity to support Russian data resources Vladimir Putin signed a decree that owners of non-state data processing centers (DPCs) located in Russia must reserve 10% of available space and capacity. The document was published on the official legal information portal. According to the order, data center owners must comply with this requirement within 10 days. At the same time, data centers will be able to continue using the reserved resources independently, but according to a decision of a special government subcommittee they will be required to provide them with support for the Russian information resources within 24 hours. Services for providing capacity will be paid. However, their cost shall not exceed the maximum level set by the subcommittee. The government was instructed to establish an appropriate subcommittee and determine the decision-making procedure. The Ministry of Digital Development must take into account the available space and capacity of the Russian data centers, as well as set requirements to ensure their reliable and uninterrupted operation. In addition, the order allows the temporary use of the computing power of foreign data centers to support Russian information resources. The subcommittee can make such decisions only in agreement with the FSB. The document says that the measures are introduced "due to the need to take urgent measures in response to the unfriendly actions of some foreign countries".
