In the Russian translation of Joe Hill's novel "The King of Sorrow" changes were found in the chapters about Russia's war against Ukraine In the Russian-language edition of the novel by the American writer Joe Hill, The King's Sorrow, some semantic changes were found that affected references to Russia and Ukraine. The book was published by Penzon Publishing, part of the Aksem holding, translated by Dmitry Starkov. Nikolai Karev, author of the Telegram channel "Captain North's Star Beacons", drew attention to the gaps between the original and the translation. He compared several passages from the book in English and Russian. In particular, the source says that the trolls are grown by Russians - "like potatoes in the Siberian heather". In the Russian edition, this phrase became a statement that Ukrainians breed trolls and "like pigs". The changes also affected the description of the events in Ukraine. The English text mentions an attack on a maternity hospital in Mariupol on March 9, which resulted in the death of a pregnant woman and a stillborn girl. In the translation, the city was replaced by Donetsk: "On March 9, something like this landed in one of the maternity hospitals in Donetsk. Deafening explosion, column of flames One of the expectant mothers died in the explosion, and her baby was stillborn." In another episode, the original sentence "That night Russia invaded Ukraine" became "That night the war in Europe started." The mention of Vladimir Putin disappeared from another section: instead of the Russian oligarchs who lived with him in Italy, in the translation there were simply oligarchs who lived in Italy. Karev also drew attention to the fact that in the scene with a moving column of tanks, the mention of Kiev as the direction of their movement disappeared from the Russian translation. Joe Hill is the author of horror and fantasy novels, the son of the writer Stephen King. King's Sorrow is about students who summon a dragon from another world. It is not known who exactly made the changes - the translator, the editor or other employees of the publisher.
