Russia may allow the registration of cars that are on the international wanted list. The State Duma Committee on Transport recommended adopting in the first reading a bill that would allow the registration in Russia of cars that are wanted at the initiative of the law enforcement authorities of "unfriendly" countries, Kommersant writes. Now such cars cannot be registered, even if information about their theft is not confirmed. The Ministry of the Interior claims that foreign departments often do not respond to requests from Russian colleagues. Since 2022, about 1.5 thousand cars that are on the international wanted list have been discovered in Russia. Deputy head of the Ministry of Interior Igor Zubov said that due to the existing rules, cars can sit idle in police parking lots for years. According to him, the bill will allow their registration and use without canceling the search itself. After the vehicle is registered, the Ministry of the Interior will notify the initiator of the search, who will be able to provide additional documents and information. Zubov also spoke about problems with registering cars in the occupied territories of Ukraine: according to him, the Ukrainian side put some cars on the wanted list through Interpol, which is why the Russian authorities could not register them. The representatives suggested that the registration documents indicated that the car was wanted to warn future buyers. The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that this would require a change in the departmental arrangement. The bill has not yet been passed. Image for illustration.
