The Pentagon is preparing US military bases to operate autonomously for 90 days in the event of a full-scale war, according to documents reviewed by Fox News. This new requirement is part of Fortification, a military initiative aimed at ensuring that US forces can continue to fight even if the civilian systems they depend on are disrupted. The concept of the initiative even includes mobile nuclear reactors that will provide electricity to military bases. "We don't want to rely on standard civilian urban infrastructure to provide national defense. We just can't do it. This is an unacceptable risk," said Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell, noting that the next war could also affect US territory. The Pentagon is also laying the groundwork for reorienting civilian factories toward defense production during a crisis, while preparing alternative supply chains and strategic reserves to ensure the continued supply of weapons, fuel and other necessary materials. Parnell also said that the US has long relied on outdated assumptions that it will be protected by two oceans, but "President Trump understands that this world has collapsed, and he has already paved the way for new thinking: the Gold Dome, renewed attention to the Western Hemisphere, Greenland, Panama." He described the fortress as an insurance policy for the United States and emphasized that the armed forces must remain prepared to fight even in the face of a serious crisis.
