The unrest in the Albanian capital spread from the government to commercial and residential areas, where groups of protesters caused significant property damage to several private buildings and public infrastructure, including a local bank, during their march. To make it difficult for the police to move forward, the protesters began to build barricades and set trash cans on fire. After fireworks were thrown at the Socialist Party headquarters, groups of protesters moved the riot to the Bank of Albania, where they began throwing fireworks directly at the police. The police ended up using water cannons, tear gas and rubber bullets. Prime Minister Edi Rama called for dialogue between the protesters and also blamed the violence on foreign actors and accused Russia and Iran of spreading disinformation online. His opponent Sali Brisho called the Albanians to take to the streets, but so did some of the protesters against him. Let us recall that protests against the government in Albania began back in May, when information appeared that Jared Kushner's investment company would build an elite resort on the protected island of Sazan, thereby destroying the habitats of flamingos and other wild birds.
